Yang noted that TUYUE's understanding of Eastern aesthetics lies in "the warmth of colors, the negative space in lines, and the belief in restraint and composure". She also addressed the challenge Chinese designers face in practicing Eastern aesthetics: "We've long been educated in Western aesthetics, so we're used to analyzing and disassembling things. But the core of Chinese aesthetics is perception — you can't explain why it's good, but you just know it feels right."

"Born and raised in China, I've never studied abroad. Eastern culture is in my blood," explained Yang, who founded TUYUE after graduating from the Department of Art History at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, and later studied at the School of Experimental Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2019.
